La consultora Price Waterhouse Coopers se encuentra entre las últimas firmas en entrar en el mercado inmobiliario de The Sandbox, una de las plataformas de mundos virtuales en las que la gente puede socializar, jugar o acudir a conciertos.
PwC pagó una suma que podría ser considerable, aunque la cantidad final no fue desvelada.
Otra persona compró recientemente por US$450.000 una parcela de tierra en Snoopverse, un mundo virtual que el rapero Snoop Dogg está desarrollando dentro de The Sandbox.

Repasemos qué es el “metaverso”, porque probablemente hayas escuchado mucho el término cuando Facebook cambió su marca a Meta en octubre de 2021.
Otras compañías, como Nike y Microsoft, también han anunciado que se lanzarán a este espacio.
El metaverso describe una visión de un mundo virtual 3D conectado, donde los mundos real y digital se integran utilizando tecnologías como la realidad virtual (VR) y la realidad aumentada (AR).
A este universo virtual se podrá acceder a través de dispositivos como gafas de realidad virtual o realidad aumentada y aplicaciones para teléfonos inteligentes.

El dinero del metaverso
Las transacciones en el mundo virtual generalmente se realizan utilizando criptomonedas.
Aparte de las criptomonedas, los tokens no fungibles (NFT) son el método principal para monetizar e intercambiar valor dentro del metaverso.
Un NFT es un activo digital único.
Aunque son principalmente elementos de arte digital (como videos, imágenes, música u objetos 3D), hay muchas cosas que pueden considerarse NFT, incluidas las propiedades virtuales.
En plataformas como OpenSea, donde la gente compra e intercambiar NFT, ahora hay terrenos o incluso casas virtuales.

En febrero de 2021, Axie Infinity (otro mundo de juegos virtuales) vendió nueve de sus parcelas de tierra por el equivalente a US$1,5 millones, un récord, dijo la compañía.
Pero tan solo unos meses después, en noviembre de eses mismo año, vendió otra parcela por US$2,3 millones en noviembre de 2021.
Aunque parece que los precios están subiendo es importante reconocer que la inversión inmobiliaria en el metaverso sigue siendo extremadamente especulativa.
Nadie puede estar seguro de si este auge es la próxima gran inversión o la próxima gran burbuja.
¿Para qué compran?
Dejando a un lado los incentivos financieros, es posible que se pregunte qué harán realmente las empresas y las personas con sus propiedades virtuales.
Por ejemplo, la compra realizada por el Grupo Metaverse se llevó a cabo en el recinto de moda de Decentraland.
Según el comprador, el espacio se utilizará para albergar eventos de moda digital y vender ropa virtual para avatares, otra área potencial de crecimiento en el metaverso.

Los tecnólogos predicen que el metaverso madurará hasta convertirse en una economía en pleno funcionamiento en los próximos años, además de una experiencia digital sincrónica tan ligada a nuestras vidas como lo están ahora el correo electrónico y las redes sociales.
