Hay muchas formas en las que tu actividad en internet es rastreada mientras navegas de un sitio a otro. Muchas de estas se pueden reducir eligiendo bien tu navegador (y ajustando sus configuraciones), además de usar herramientas como VPNs.
Google Chrome sigue siendo el peor navegador para la privacidad por muchas razones, pero eso no significa que no haya tenido avances. De hecho, la próxima versión de Chrome finalmente corregirá un error de 20 años que permitía rastrear y perfilar a los usuarios a través de los enlaces que habían visitado antes.
Una solución de privacidad llegará en Chrome 136
El problema, que Google está solucionando con Chrome 136, tiene que ver con cómo se muestran los enlaces que un usuario ya ha visitado al pasar de un sitio a otro. Como explica BleepingComputer, Chrome guarda los enlaces visitados de manera global y permite que se vean en un color diferente al azul predeterminado, incluso si los hiciste clic en otro sitio web. Por ejemplo, podrías ver un enlace en morado en una página, lo que indica que ya lo visitaste, pero en realidad lo abriste por primera vez en un sitio completamente distinto.
Esta forma de guardar los enlaces visitados genera grandes problemas de privacidad y seguridad, ya que deja expuesto el historial de navegación y aumenta el riesgo de phishing y otros ciberataques. BleepingComputer informa que en el pasado se han descubierto varios ataques que aprovechaban esta vulnerabilidad. Considerando que Chrome manejó así la situación durante veinte años, no es tan sorprendente.
Eso cambiará con la próxima actualización 136. Esta versión implementará la “partición de triple clave”, que marcará un enlace como visitado solo en el mismo sitio y origen donde se hizo clic. También hay una excepción para los “enlaces propios”, lo que significa que un sitio podrá mostrar sus subpáginas como visitadas incluso si hiciste clic en ellas en otro lugar de internet (ya que los sitios ya saben si has estado en esas páginas).
Qué deben hacer los usuarios de Chrome
Se espera que la solución se active automáticamente cuando se lance Chrome 136, pero los usuarios de la versión actual (Chrome 135) y versiones anteriores hasta la 132 pueden activarla manualmente. Ve a chrome://flags/#partition-visited-link-database-with-self-links y selecciona “Enabled” en el menú desplegable. Ten en cuenta que la función aún es experimental y puede no funcionar como debería.
Por supuesto, también puedes considerar cambiarte a un navegador que ofrezca mejor protección de privacidad. (Firefox y Safari también tienen problemas con el estilo de enlaces visitados, aunque no tan graves como los de Chrome).
